A Good Afternoon At Ashland Reservoir

This was my first time here and I did not have huge expectations given it was mid-afternoon, about 3 p.m., and I only had a few hours to fish.

But I set to working the shoreline in the southern end of the rez with a senko worm and started to hit pay dirt after a half hour or so. First a tiny 8" dink largemouth, then a nice 13 incher, an 11 incher, a 15" pickerel, and finally another 11" largemouth, plus I lost another one maybe a foot long just short of the kayak. Lots of other hits too. I think if I had been able to stay a few more hours until dusk it would have continued to be productive.

All in all a pretty good debut trip for me there. Nothing huge, but lots of fun and consistent action.

Comments

  • Good point, as long as the LMB dinks don't get gobbled by the pickerel, like this 15 incher that I caught.

  • But little guys turn into big guys at some point right? I have heard of the occasional big guy coming out of there. My thoughts: trout = big bass. This place gets stocked well. Them small trout plump up the bass nice!
